Mount Magazine, 7.5 miles, and about 100 ticks...

I can't believe it's already Wednesday! I loooooove the short weeks that come from long, wonderful weekends.

Our time in Arkansas is dwindling down, and there are still some places we want to see before we head back east. So we took advantage of a GORGEOUS Saturday and took Hermione hiking up at Mt. Magazine. While we didn't hike that specific trail, Mt. Magazine is home to Arkansas' highest point, and the the views were worth the 2.5 hour drive it took us to get there.

The only problem we encountered? Besides the fact that the map says 2.8 miles, and it ended up being 7.5? The ticks. Oh. My. Jesus. Every five minutes we were stopping to pick multiple ticks off of Hermione, picking them off of ourselves, bag, shoes, etc. It was awful. We much have plucked at least 100 off of her. When we got home, we literally stripped in the garage, threw everything in the washing machine and went for showers. We still found ticks on her throughout the night, and ended up giving her a bath. This has never been a problem on any of our other hikes, so I'm not sure if it was a seasonal thing or what, but it was really, really bad.

The view from the first overlook on our way to the trail.

Happy to finally be out of the car =)

Hermione, and her backpack, are ready to go. I can not say enough wonderful things about what this backpack does for her behavior when we're out walking. The trails were empty except for us, so Graham took her off of her leash. She stayed off of her leash the entire time, and never got more than about 8 feet ahead of us. This is crazy, and unheard of for her. Whenever she got more than about 5 feet ahead of us, she would stop and look back to make sure we were coming. Not to mention, her pack was loaded down with water bottles, so in addition to a 7.5 mile hike, the extra weight resulted in a super tired puppy!

I've never had a problem with heights (with the exception of ladders...), but this was freaky. I call this "spouse killer point". Can't you just see a Lifetime movie happening. A couple goes for a lovely hike... one of the spouses has more than pretty scenery on their mind and pushes their partner off? And then cries to the police about a freak accident? I actually think there is about 10 Lifetime movies with that plot...

After finishing the 7.5 mile hike, we headed to the lodge and stopped at the overlook on the way. The views were absolutely breathtaking.

Don't worry, we made sure Hermione was on her leash at this height & this close to the edge ;)

One tired, sweet girl on the way home.

    1. We had a wonderful time (besides all the ticks...). Hermione is just about a year and a half old.
